A kind of cable termination PD (partial discharge) condition monitoring device based on the TEV method is developed. In order to discuss the response characteristic of PD pulses, the wave impedance model of the PD propagation is built. Furthermore, a new kind of sensor for the PD detecting of the cable termination is designed and manufactured based on the wave impedance model. Moreover, a wireless PD monitoring scheme based on this kind of sensor is presented and a prototype of the monitoring device for the cable termination is developed. By using PRPD (phase resolved partial discharge) technique, the detecting reliability of the monitoring device is guaranteed. Finally, the testing data show that the design principle and monitoring results of the device meet the demands of the PD condition monitoring for cable terminations.
