To address the challenges of single-phase ground fault line selection affected by transient characteristics of arc suppression coil compensation, a method based on the compensation characteristics of the coil is proposed. When the inductive current of the coil is greater than the capacitive current, the fault line exhibits a unique change-of-phase compensation characteristic. This is utilized to form a line selection method based on the change-of-phase compensation characteristic of the arc suppression coil. In situations where the inductive current of the coil is less than the capacitive current, the method leverages the attenuation compensation characteristic, where the current amplitude of the fault line decays more significantly than that of non-fault lines. Then a line selection method based on the attenuation compensation characteristic of the coil is constructed. Adaptive simulation and field case analyses show that the line selection method based on the change-of-phase compensation characteristic of the coil can realize single line selection, and is not affected by the polarity errors of the zero sequence current transformer and high-resistance grounding. The line selection method based on the attenuation compensation characteristic of the arc suppression coil can also identify a single fault line and is immune to polarity error of the zero sequence current transformer, though it is affected by high-resistance grounding.
