The influence of high permeability DG access to distribution network on the traditional three stage over-current protection is analyzed. A practical protection scheme for distribution network with high penetration of DG is proposed to solve the problem of the possible mal-operation of the three stage over-current protection, and also the protection configuration and setting principle are proposed. The protection scheme is based on sequential coordination between instant accelerate protection, anti-islanding protection and switch onto fault protection, having no dependence on communication and a large number of PTs, and the settings are set according to the conventional distribution network without DG access, which are not affected by the number, capacity and position of DG access.
