This papersummarizes the development of distribution automation system. Then, it discusses the feeder automation mode and configuration scheme of feeder automation, and how to improve the practicability of distribution automation system, the operation maintenance management of distribution automation system, and the requirement of different levels in power grid company. Through suiting the measures to local conditions and configuring different FA modes, it proposes an FA configuration scheme with the features of longitudinal hierarchy, horizonal division, global optimization, and fast recovery. Some construction thoughts are suggested about improving the automation coverage, the practicability of system function, and the operation and maintenance efficiency of distribution automation system. The operation and maintenance management of power distribution business of provincial company and the unified management and control function of the headquarters are discussed.
