The parallel double circuit lines on the same tower engineering scheme is adopted by Anhui Electricity Eastward Transmitting Shanghai-Huainan UHV AC transmission demonstration project. The mutual inductance exists between lines of double circuits, which leads to the impedance measurement problem of stage type distance protection. In practical application it can be solved by shortening the protection range in fixed value setting method. Common transmission line fault location based on single loop measuring impedance principle is also influenced by mutual inductance, and fault location results will produce a bigger error caused by severe transient process when UHV transmission line fault occurs. This paper analyzes the influence of coupled inductance and transient process of UHV transmission lines on conventional fault location by modeling simulation, puts forward an overall implementation scheme of distribution parameter double-end fault location principle based on negative-sequence fault component. From engineering application perspective, single loop information is adopted in fault location scheme, and considering fault characteristics of UHV transmission line and the demand of fault location principle, a fault location algorithm based on Haiming window cascading digital filter is put forward. The simulation model of “Anhui Electricity Eastward Transmitting” UHV transmission line is established through RTDS/MATLAB, the simulation results show that the proposed scheme is not influenced by mutual inductance of the same tower and interim resistance, and effectively avoids the influence of the transient process of UHV transmission line fault on fault location.
